Happy Birthday Mama!

"You might have a mom, she might be the bomb
But ain't nobody got a mom like mine
Her love's 'til the end, she's my best friend
Ain't nobody got a mom like mine"

Just a few lines from the song I wrote about my mom...just kidding--Meghan Trainor wrote this song, but I love it, and thought it was appropriate for this post!

I love celebrating Mom every day, but I especially love celebrating her on her birthday! How she has put up with me for 25 years is certainly impressive as I can be quite a lot at times—from being a little girl and convincing her to buy me McDonald's for dinner even though Dad let me have it for lunch in the same day (definitely didn't get dessert after that), to getting into a wee bit of trouble in grade school, to making difficult life decisions post-grad. She’d be the first to say I’m a bit dramatic at times, and I’d be the first to agree with her!

1. My floral outfit is Mink Pink, and I purchased it at The Impeccable Pig boutique--one of my favorite clothing stores!  2. Steven Madden Wedges  3. My go-to Sheila hoop earrings!

"She my world, she's my heart and there's no denying
I'm her girl no matter what even when I'm lying
She loving me, loving me, loving me, loving me, love
She love me like nobody else"

Regardless, she’s still always been my fangirl, my friend, my person, my heart-mender, my advice-giver, my tear-wiper, my "momual" in life, my problem-solver.

“My mom and I have always spoken the same language. We can do anything—we just have to figure it out.” As I sat on the beach and read these words out of this month’s issue of American Lifestyle magazine, I looked over at my mom sitting next to me and smiled. Lilly Bunn, an interior decorator, featured in this issue, had perfectly summed up the relationship between my mother and I.

"See we go way back, oh, I remember
All the times that I cried, she made me feel better
She loving me, loving me, loving me, loving me, love
She love me like nobody else"

Over the years I’ve learned that together we really can do anything! Maybe not the first time around, but that’s the best part of having a problem-solving mom—no matter what challenge or failure she’s presented with, she sits her butt down and brainstorms how to unriddle the situation. Considering all the things that I’ve come to her about, I would say she is a professional unriddle-er!

I’m constantly getting told how much I resemble my mother, and I honestly think that’s the biggest compliment anyone could give me. Not only because she’s so beautiful, but because she’s an amazing person, too. I’m not only proud, but also honored to be her daughter! If I could continue to grow up and become just half the person she is today, then I’d be perfectly appeased.

Mama, it's our world, and everyone else is just livin' in it! Thanks for always teaching me how to have a good time, and to take things with a grain of salt--except tequila, tequila doesn't need it!

This year, we just so happened to be at the beach still for her birthday. It was our last day there which was a nice distraction from the fact that our week-long vacay was quickly and sadly coming to an end. We spent the day doing all the things Mom wanted to do. It started off with a family bike ride that was so relaxing that my ham of a nephew fell asleep and his little head kept bobbing back and forth behind my brother-in-law—it was priceless! After that, we spent a majority of the afternoon soaking up our last set of sun rays on the beach. Post sunbathing, I headed out to pick up some of the most generously sized cupcakes I’ve ever seen, while Mark made a pit stop at Barnacle Bill’s to grab fish to throw on the grill. Now, I know what you’re thinking…isn’t Barnacle Bill’s the restaurant Spongebob worked out in Bikini Bottom?? Well yes, but luckily Mark didn’t have to travel all the way to Bikini Bottom for this fish stop!

If you look closely, you can see Franklin's little head hunched forward! Bless his sweet heart!
Preparing some veggies to go with our Wahoo for dinner with the monogrammed cutting board my sisters and I got my mom for her birthday! It was one of the samples at my favorite monogram shop here at home--Miller Monograms. I knew I had to get it for her!

Anywho, I need to talk about the cupcakes more because wow. They were from Sweet Carolina’s Cupcakes around the corner from our condos in Hilton Head. Because of their abounding size I chose six cupcakes of different flavors for all of us to share: your classic yellow cake with chocolate icing, salted caramel, fresh blackberry, chocolate cake with cream cheese icing, red velvet, and their signature sweet Carolina cupcake—a vanilla cream cheese frosting on their pink velvet cake topped with pink sparking sugar.

Loved spending what little time I did in Sweet Carolina's Cupcakes

Practically drooled over them in the store, drooled over them at dinner, and am currently drooling over them now. They were amazing--group favorite was definitely the Fresh Blackberry!

After dinner, I quickly cleaned up for us in efforts to selfishly hurry everyone along to dessert—y’all know my sweet tooth is serious! I served them on my brand new platter that I purchased from Emily Mccarthy Shoppe, the first stop during our day trip to Savannah!

Come to mama!

Was thrilled to already put my coral Emily McCarthy platter to good use!

Mom sliced them up and passed around pieces for everyone including little Franklin. We chatted with our mouths full as we shared corny dessert jokes, like “That one really just takes the cake!” Yea, we’ve got some work to do when it comes to our jokes.

Not only is he cute as a button, but he loves to share his sweets with Aunt Lulu--something I will just never be able to do...

It’s safe to say that our bellies were full post dinner and dessert, and our hearts were just as full after our family vacation!

So, long story short, thanks a million Mom, for doing whatever it is you did throughout my life—I seemed to turn out pretty darn good if I do say so myself, but definitely would not be the woman I am today without you!

"Her love's 'til the end, she's my best friend
Ain't nobody got a mom like mine
Oh, how she loves me to the moon and back
That's what she told me
Her love never ends, she's my best friend
Ain't nobody got a mom like mine"
