"Fallitizing" The Mint Cottage!

"Fallitizing" The Mint Cottage!

With so much going on these days, I feel like I've neglected The Mint Cottage lately! My cleaning lady would also agree with that...

I love dressing up my home, inside and out. Whether it be my all year round decor, or my seasonal, I am here for it. Well I'm actually at Target for it, buying all the things. You know you've placed too many items in your cart when you feel like you have to give the cashier an explanation because her eyeballs got awfully big when you strolled up to her counter...

...oh well, no shame in my Target run game!

I am a huge mums fan, but am really bad at taking care of them, so they don't stay alive very long here at The Mint Cottage...

I always have so much fun picking out pumpkins! I'm really into the stack look.

My sweet Fall burlap wreath is from Swoozie's. It's a little pricey, but I've used it every single year so I have zero guilt about it! There are also lots of similar versions on Etsy!

Okay, here is where the Target finds begin...

How cute is this little truck of pumpkins?! What I love about this truck is that you can use it for Christmas, as well, and just fill its bed with some small Christmas trees. The truck was $20, but again if you're using it for more than one holiday, then it's totally worth it in my opinion. The pumpkins came in a pack of eight and were no more than $10. I used them here on my bar, and you'll see later that I added them to my bookshelf, too.

My bar is always the first place I look to redecorate when it comes to holidays. The littlest touches are easy ways to make your home festive. I'm a sucker for cocktail napkins--I have drawers and bins full of them.

I also just love pie. :)

I think I would have a much harder time decorating my living room if it weren't for my bookcase!

I wanted to be able to keep the colorful aspect of this room, so I picked pumpkin decor that would still jive with the year-round theme of it.

Everything pumpkin-related you see on this bookshelf came from Target. The most expensive item was the large orange pumpkin ($20), and everything else was $10 or under.

Doesn't this little punkin' go great with our laughs?? :)

Three things I'm a sucker for when it comes to The Mint Cottage: faux flowers because I'm horrible at keeping real ones alive, candles (no such thing as too many), and coffee table books--again, no such thing as too many!

This little bouquet was $20, but I could easily use it throughout the entire year. I wanted to choose something wasn't quite as bright to pair with these already colorful books and photos.

Okay, I may be crazy for decorating underneath the table top, but I can't help it! Even if I'm the only one who is going to see/notice this pumpkin then I still feel good about it.

At this point, you're probably thinking, so she pretty much just threw a bunch of pumpkins everywhere and called it a day. Well, you're not wrong--but that's just a great example of how easy decorating can be sometimes! Seasonal decor is really the best to shop for because you already have a theme to stick to, so it makes it much simpler to know what goes in your shopping cart and what can stay on the shelves.

I had to get a picture of Bentley! She just patiently waited for attention as I made a mess of our living room.

Audrey on the other hand...had zero patience and became very jealous of the kitchen pumpkins. Still my angel, though!

My kitchen and laundry room (yes, I added a little bit of Fall to a room that only I go in) color-scheme is a little more specific than my living areas. The main group consists of black, red, pistachio, and blue, so I wanted to keep my decor true to those colors.

These black and white plaid pumpkins were perfect!

I even played with using a cake platter to set them up. Side note: cake platters are not just for cakes!

My laundry room is small, so even the littlest pumpkin can go a long way!

That's a wrap until Christmas! But don't worry, it's not as long of a wait as you think--I'm that girl who decorates for it before Thanksgiving...

Here For The "Boos" And Cookies...

Here For The "Boos" And Cookies...

Y'all, how fun is Halloween!? So many things you could be and so much candy, but so little time. From being a little black kitty, to dressing up as all the Disney princesses, to being a poodle skirt girl at the age of 10 (I was an old soul), to this year dressing up as a Rockford Peach (name that movie!), I'd have to say that my Halloween nights have been quite the success...especially the candy part!

I had the strangest candy mentality on Halloween when I was little. I wanted to ensure that I filled my pillow case up with the most candy the neighborhood had to offer, but I don't really recall having a specific strategy to support this.

I was more focused on just hoarding as much candy as possible instead of eating all of it, but don't let me fool you, candy definitely got eaten! I have the cavities to prove it...

I specifically remember counting each piece of candy once I was finished with trick-or-treating. I'd then tally up my number, place all of my candy back in its bag, and put it away.

For many days after that, I would come home from school, grab the candy-filled pillowcase, and count the pieces again. (I think) I did this for two reasons: I just loved the idea of having a whole bunch of candy, and this was also how I would keep tabs on whether or not my parents ate any of it, specifically my dad...I wasn't a sharer.

I can't say much has changed since then. I'm still not a sharer when it comes to my candy, but rather than hoarding it in a pillowcase, I now just use my belly...and prefer washing it down with wine instead of water. :)

How precious are these little ghosts?! I know I say "favorite" a lot, but these are definitely my new fav! They also probably took the least amount of time out of any of the cookies I've worked with before, so that too is a plus.

I will say they're awfully greedy though...don't invite them over, they'll only show up for the "boos!" See what I did there? #203YPpuns

I absolutely adore my punkins' too!

Happy Halloween from me and 203YP! I hope it's just as sweet as when you were a kid. :)

Memories Never Tasted So Good!

Memories Never Tasted So Good!

I like to think of myself as the original cookie monster. But not the bad kind. You know how there's a good witch and a bad witch in Wizard of Oz? Well consider me the good cookie monster! This title at leasts gives me a reason to wear my tiara around the kitchen, right??

When it comes to making my customized sugar cookies, I can't help but to reminisce on memories that the shapes and designs remind me of. This blog has always been about me sharing little pieces of my life one bite at a time, so as I recap some of my favorite cookie creations, I hope you'll enjoy the memories that I'm happily reminded of!

Horse is the Name of the Game!

Believe you me when I say I am much better at baking and decorating basketballs than I am at playing basketball. Growing up we always had a basketball hoop despite being a house of only girls, 3 to be exact. My sisters and I mostly played Horse and Around the World, but we mostly just aimlessly threw up some "granny shots." Needless to say, none us developed a career in basketball, but you never have to worry about us spelling horse wrong!

Puppy Sisters!!

It is safe to say that these little puppies stole my heart--to the point where I felt bad when I ate one of their tails! I immediately regretted it and did not eat any more.

For those looking for a new diet, just make all of your food in the shape of puppy dogs. You'll feel too guilty after eating a paw or tail to take another bite.

These sweet pups remind me of my puppy sisters, Roxanne and Lexie Anne!

We got Roxanne when I was a junior in high school. Both my sisters were already in college, and even though I had two more years of high school left, Mom considered her and my stepdad, Mark, empty nesters already (insert eye roll here...).

Living with Roxy those two years was truly like having a little sister--she sometimes got on my nerves, received all of the attention from our parents, comforted me when I was sad or sick, accompanied me in my last "first day of school" photo, and always gave me hugs and kisses any and every time we were together.

And when I went off to college, I hoped she wouldn't forget about me.

Good news, Roxy did not forget about me! And now we have another Great Dane sister, Lexie, who Mom and Mark adopted shortly after I came home from Georgia.

Lexie is the sweetest and also the clumsiest, but we love her to pieces. Now Roxy has a little sister that she gets annoyed with more often than not, but I know deep down she loves her, too!

"Mommy, I Don't Wear Dresses..."

My little dress-shaped cookies may be my absolute favorite! Pink dress, purple dress, prom dress, debutante dress, wedding dress, you name it and I'll bake and decorate! Each one will come with a pretty little pearl sprinkle belt that I just cannot get enough of.

The white ones always remind me of my debutante ball years back. My friends and I had the most fun! The next day I was so sad about it being over that I sulked around the house in my dress.

I'm not dramatic at all...

Speaking of not being dramatic...when I was about 3 years old, my mom was in my room attempting to get me ready for the day. I loved dresses back then just as much as I do now, and my closet was definitely proof of this. But this one particular day, I looked at Mom as she handed me my favorite dress, and declared "Mommy, I don't wear dresses, I never wear dresses."

If you know me at all, then you know that to this day I tend to change my mind just as quickly and easily sometimes, but never when it comes to wearing dresses!

"Do you even own anything that doesn't have your monogram on it?"

For me, the answer is no. I have what some would call an unhealthy relationship with monograms, I can't help it! But if having too many is wrong, then I do not want to be right.

1. Bedding: Belle Epoque 2. Monogrammed by Miller Monograms (sadly they no longer have their physical store but plenty goodies on their website!) 3. Banana leaf lumbar pillow cover (pillow insert I just bought from target) 4. Banana leaf lamp shades are from Etsy and the bases are from Target (I bought lamps from Target and simply switched out their shades--similar ones here and here!)
I actually painted this one all by myself with a little help from Ashley at Miller Monograms! They had a girls' Craft Night Out that I couldn't pass up. This beauty is proudly displayed in my guest room!

1. I love my door hanger from Swoozie's! 2. My banana leaf indoor/outdoor couch pillows are from Etsy.
So I can't say I painted this one. I did however, order the vinyl monogram from Swoozie's, bought a blank canvas, and stuck it on there myself! That's about the extent of my DYI-ing at The Mint Cottage...

Napkins, towels, wall art, door hanger, coffee mugs, Tervis Tumblers, shower curtain, purses, bedding, jewelry, t-shirts, pillows, you name it and I probably have it monogrammed here at The Mint Cottage, so you can probably understand why I enjoy monogramming cookies! There's just something so classic about them no matter the font that you used.

I honestly don't really have any memories as they relate to monograms, I just love them!

So if nothing else, then I guess you could say I'm reminded of all the dollars I've spent on all my monogrammed goodies (insert shoulder shrug here)...
