Live. Love. Monogram.

Live. Love. Monogram.

I love monograms. Simply obsessed, and I’d bet that if you took my heart out of my chest, you would find a bright pink one stamped on it! Monograms are just one of the many ways in which I’m able to express my girliness, southern roots, and sassy personality.

If I were a monogrammed item, this is probably what I would look like--bright, bold, kind of a lot, and very upfront. Get you one just like it for your home at Swoozie's!

One of my girlfriends asked how many I have throughout The Mint Cottage. She really didn’t know what to say when I told her I had eleven of them—I thought it best to leave out the 40ish monogrammed shatterproof cups in the cabinet. A simple head shake is the response she went with.

I can't help myself, the monogramming possibilities are endless!

This is actually one of my favorites, because I painted it myself! With the help of my girl Ashley, from Miller Monograms...and a stencil, of course.

Monogrammed notepad...because I'm a lot.

I love how such a little detail can make such a big impression in small spaces, and this is a great example of that! Doubt I'd be able to work at my desk without it...

But, I also adore monograms because for me they are a symbol of my independence—something that I have always prided myself on having.

Acrylic trays can be so versatile. They're great for bar decor like this, but can also be used for a number of things--your sunnies collection, keys, a nightstand catch-all--you name it and it'll probably hold it!
1. Acrylic Monogrammed Tray 2. Gold Bamboo Napkin Holder 3. Kate Spade Polka Dot Highball glasses 4. Kate Spade Lowball glasses, similar ones HERE and HERE 5. Kate Spade Vase 6. Gold Pineapple Bottle Opener 7. My FAV bar napkins can be found HERE!

I recently took a quiz to find out which Disney princess I am because knowing is obviously crucial…anywho, I got Pocahontas. At first, I was slightly disappointed because I wanted to be Ariel—she’s always been my favorite. But then I read the description that came with Pocahontas, and I was like “wow, I really am her!”

Y'all should totally take this quiz! Some of the answers to the questions are hilarious. Can't wait to here which one you are!

Buzzfeed totally gets me--they were really spot on. I wonder if Pocahontas loves monograms, too? K, moving on…

As a single girl in her 20s, I’ve learned a great deal about myself—what I want in life, personally and professionally, in both the short and long runs. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not using independence and singleness synonymously; but for me, they are both current themes in my life. Being single has actually enhanced my independence in such a positive way. Every day has been a new page in the “Lindsey’s Single” chapter in my life’s story and I wouldn’t change a word of it!

I'm a sucker for Swoozie's and can do some serious damage in there, but they're great when it comes to all my monogram wants needs...
They printed this sticker for me, I slapped it on a blank canvas myself and called it a day. It's classic and was a perfect addition to my kitchen!
1. Swoozie's Monogrammed Decals 2. White Canvas

So each time I catch myself eyeing one of my monograms, I’m instantly reminded of all the things I’ve done for me. Every time I walk up to my front door and see my obnoxiously large (but super cute), bright pink monogrammed door hanger I think, “I bought this house, I created this home.” And when I catch a glimpse of the red monogrammed canvas in my kitchen I’m reminded of the fact that I created a business from scratch in this room, on these counters…and also reminded of the time I put together my kitchen island all by myself, pink tools and all!

These towels were a graduation gift and I'm really funny about them. I have two different sets of monogrammed towels--one set is to be used and the other set is this one...
...might be slightly bratty of me, but I can't say that I'm that concerned about it (lol). Surely I'm not the only one who has towels that are too cute to use!

1. Navy Stripes and Peonies Watercolor Print from History In High Heels Etsy Shop 2. Solid Navy Blue Towels: Pottery Barn or Target
From my monogrammed shower curtain and towels, to my initialed bedding and pillow cases, to my monogrammed trays, each one helps me recall and celebrate not only the big things I’ve achieved, but the little victories, too!

Oh how I love my bedroom, like too much almost--some mornings I'm shocked that I'm able to leave it. I wanted to create a calm bedroom space, but my taste in decor has always been bright and bold, so I was worried about how mingling the themes together would look. I quickly learned that I could create a serene space while still using the bold patterns and hues that my heart has a soft spot for--it's just a matter of balance!

I accomplished this by keeping my bedding simple and adding accent pieces, like my banana leaf lumbar pillow and lampshades and gold throw blanket. When my bedding came in the mail I was just smitten by it, and I could not wait to get it monogrammed. It was like a blank canvas waiting to be painted! Needless to say, I adore it.

1. Banana Leaf Lampshades 2. Banana Leaf Lumbar Pilow 3. Gold Throw 4. Belle Epoque quilted Bedding w/ Pink Trim 5. Mirrored Decorative Boxes 6. Similar Lampshades HERE

So, in conclusion, if you take nothing else from today's post, then at least take this…

"Life is short. Be like Pocahontas. Monogram it all."

I'm On (Kitchen) Island Time

I'm On (Kitchen) Island Time

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
I was very sad to pull up to my house last week to see that my new Crosley Stainless Steel Top Portable Kitchen Island (say that five times fast!) had arrived not put together. I was also sad to see that it had arrived without a round-trip ticket to a real island with palm trees…can you tell I’m ready for a vacation?
I purchased this gem from Home Depot. Home Depot and Lowe's have become my new addiction--they're like my new Target. I can't quite explain it, but I imagine it has something to do with me being a home owner now!
I was so sad that I left the boxes on my front porch for a couple more hours as punishment until I was ready to let them come inside The Mint Cottage. They then sat in the living room for a few more days and acted as a jungle gym for my sweet angel kittens.
Confession: I actually didn't use my pink screw driver once because it was a flathead and I needed the philips head...does that sound right? Oh well! Anywho, it still made an appearance in a few pics because I just couldn't help myself. :)
Before I fill you in on this experience, I feel like I should give you a little background on my level of handiness. I’m a girl who is fairly stubborn a majority of the time when it comes to doing house "stuff" on my own, mostly because of the tool-accessories that I have. You may be wondering what exactly tool-accessories are…well, they are my cute tools: a little pink drill, a pink tool box with cute little matching pink tools, and well, that’s pretty much all of my tool-accessories. So, if you ever need a picture, mirror, or shelf hung, then I’m definitely your girl. If you ever need help replacing your A/C filter, I’m actually still your girl. If you ever need help hanging new wood blinds, replacing your ceiling fan, or doing something plumbing-related, then stop where you are because I am 100% not your girl. I bought a new ceiling fan probably over a year ago—and it’s happily still sitting in its box under my guest bed…

In the past, I was very quick to call my stepdad, Mark, for miscellaneous tasks that I was just not cut out to do.  This time however, I was more than determined to put this sucker together all on my own! (Mostly because I recently replaced my A/C and mowed my lawn, so really I just felt like I was on a roll!) I charged up with two cups of coffee, unpacked the boxes, laid out the pieces-- may or may not have freaked out a little when I saw how many dang parts there actually were--and happily opened the instructions to preview how helpful they were (or were not) going to be.
Aside from the additional counter space this provides me, the wheels are what make this so useful for me! I can literally utilize is from anywhere in my kitchen.
Things got pretty serious, but only a little bit of blood was drawn. 100% user error...used a knife to open something up, I definitely DO NOT recommend doing that!

You don't need to know me very well to know that I am extremely direct (some would argue too direct at times) and straight to the point when communicating. So you can understand how much I appreciate instructions that tell me exactly what to do and when to do it. I mean, pictures are nice and all, but they use letters and arrows..and it’s just not all that helpful. Whoever was responsible for drawing up the instructions for this kitchen island is a person after my own heart! At no point throughout the process did I question what I was doing, nor did I have to call one of my handymen that I have on speed dial—which I’m sure they appreciated not hearing from me as much as I appreciated not having to call them.
My kitchen towels are honestly my favorite way to accessorize my kitchen! They're so small, yet they bring so much personality to the room.

My go-to place for cute hand towels is Swoozie's! That's where my NC state "welcome friends" one is from.

I will say that even though I had some ease when putting together this pretty little island, it still was no piece of cake…but you better believe I enjoyed eating a piece of cake off of it afterwards in celebration!

Back, Better, And Happier Than Ever!

Back, Better, And Happier Than Ever!

Come June 12th it will have been 2 years since I bought my first home, which many of you know as The Mint Cottage. It's my favorite place in the whole wide world, a place you will become very acquainted with the more you visit 203YP!

Before I even closed on my house I purchased 2 items that I felt went hand-in-hand with purchasing a home--a Kitchenaid stand mixer and a decorative deviled egg plate. Ironically, but probably not surprising, I have yet to use my deviled egg platter, but being somewhat of a bargain shopper, I happened to get it on clearance at Swoozie's so have not been terribly heartbroken about this.

Unfortunately, I can't say that I've quite gotten my money's worth when it comes to my perfect pistachio-colored mixer, either, as I've only used it once...and by that I actually mean my friend Grace came over before one of our beach trips and used it...

...her brownies were delicious, by the way!

Growing up, and throughout college, it was no secret that I loved to bake. In fact, some of you know that this isn't 203YP's first rodeo. So why on earth, you may ask, have I let my Kitchenaid mixer make nothing but dust bunnies over the past couple of years? Well life happened. At some point I managed to grow up and began doing (or at least pretending to do) adult things. I sometimes have trouble taking myself seriously as said adult because at the end of each day I still sleep with not one, but two Limited Too purple monkey-patterned blankets that I've had since I was about nine.

But I would be lying if I said I haven't enjoyed being home since graduating. A lot has happened, and I'm thankful for all of it, both the good and the bad!

I've had the opportunity to develop a successful career with the help of some amazing companies and coworkers, but have also experienced being fired along the way. I have acquired multiple designations, yet have failed my fair share of tests throughout the process. I've strengthened old friendships and developed new ones with some pretty spectacular people. I've been in caring, yet unsuccessful relationships, and had the courage to remove myself completely from extremely unhealthy ones, as well. I've said goodbye to family members and made a point to communicate more often with others while we still have each other. I've joined organizations that allowed me to play a part in bettering my community, but also participated in groups and events that unintentionally forced me to be something that I'm not.

Each one of these experiences has reassured me of who I am today, and although they aren't all positive, I can't imagine having endured this kinda-adult, kinda-not adult journey without each one of them, as they have all taught me so much. Along the way I have learned: to be mindful of my work ethic and to not take things so personally when in a professional setting; to be proud of the goals I achieve no matter how small; to look at setbacks as blessings in disguise, opportunities and second chances rather than failures; to remain self-motivated when I feel doubt creeping in; to never take advantage of the time I have with my family and friends by making sure I call them, FaceTime them, visit and simply spend time with them as often as possible!

I've learned how important self-worth is and how it directly correlates with how much I believe I deserve in my relationships. I've learned what kind of love, how much of it I'm capable of giving, and how much I deserve in return. I've learned all about compromise and its importance in certain situations. I've learned how crucial it is to divvy out time for myself to ensure my physical, mental, and emotional health. As cliche as this may sound, I've learned how much less effort smiling requires over frowning, and how laughter truly is the best medicine. But most importantly, I have learned that no one but me is responsible for my happiness, and I can't depend on others to make me happy. The second I leave that up to anyone else's words or actions, I lose sight of me--of my purpose, my independence, and my freedom, and I need those to stay true to who I am. Which brings me back to 203YP!

When I realized it had been at least 3 years since my last post I couldn't quite wrap my mind around it! Deciding to start it back up again was both an easy and difficult decision all at the same time. I asked myself a couple questions beforehand: When am I going to have time to do this? What if people don't enjoy it? But what's so neat about doing and sharing something you love is you'll find yourself making time for it without even realizing it--it ends up fitting perfectly in your already busy schedule. When expressing to a close friend my doubts about folks not enjoying it, she calmly reassured me in only two sentences: "Happiness is contagious. They may not love baking or shopping at Home Goods as much as you do, but if nothing else, they'll at least leave 203YP with a smile on."
So as you continue to visit and explore here, I hope you also continue to be inspired to do what your heart loves! Because even though we may not always believe it, we deserve to be the happiest versions of ourselves. Isn't that such a fun thought?! I think so, too.
Since I'm a tad rusty in the kitchen these days, I figured I'd start off with a simpler favorite of mine--chocolate chip cookies! The best chocolate chip cookies, actually. The cookies that even the cookie haters love. You're bound to win over some bellies with this one!

Plus, the deviled eggs have already waited this long...what's a tad bit longer?
I like to think of my style in the kitchen as an organized mess. Placing newspaper down on my counter eliminates some clean-up time later on. Ingredients not pictured: your vanilla extract and salt.

This recipe only calls for one large egg, but if you like your cookies more on the chewy side, then try adding an additional egg yolk and/or substituting the light brown sugar for dark.

This is around the time I become a little inpatient as all I really want to do is eat the dough...

Confession: I never actually measure how many chips I put in...when it come to chocolate chips I'm more of the "the more, the merrier" kind of baker! Semi-sweet chips bake the best, but for this recipe I always use milk choco chips because they become perfectly melted in the oven and stay super soft once cooled down.

My absolute favorite blogger is Sally's Baking Addiction. I've been following her site and recipes since high school. Since then, I have learned two amazing tips/tricks for perfecting these cookies: Use cornstarch in your recipe and roll into oval-shaped balls. Both will give your batches added height and fluff! With these you can also avoid the cookies running on the sheets while baking.

Okay, and here's the most important step: Eat Dough Between Batches :)
Please excuse my "resting dough eating" face
Yum. Yum. Yum.
